Library Survey Finding — January 2026: 60% of students (9/15) and 36% of staff (4/11) were either unaware of or uncertain about DrillBit — the university's anti-plagiarism tool. This poses a real risk of unintentional academic misconduct. Contact the library today to get your access.

What is DrillBit?

DrillBit is Umma University's institutional anti-plagiarism software. It checks submitted documents against a vast database of academic publications, web content, and previously submitted work to generate a similarity report.

It is used by academic staff to check assignments, coursework, and dissertations. Students can also use it proactively to check their own work before submission — avoiding unintentional plagiarism.

Check before submission

Use DrillBit on your own work before handing it in to catch any issues early.

Academic Integrity Policy

Academic misconduct includes plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and unauthorized collaboration. The library supports academic integrity by providing DrillBit access, citation training, and Zotero/Mendeley workshops.

Key Principle: Properly cite all sources. When in doubt, ask a librarian — we are here to help, not catch you out.
